Learn To Play Program

The Peterborough Junior Ice Hockey Club Learn to Play Programme was set up during 2007 in response to the increasing number of youngsters who want to get involved in ice hockey in the Greater Peterborough area.  The programme caters for children from 5 to 13 years and is designed to provide a more structured, lesson-based introduction to the world of ice hockey.  Learn to Play has so far graduated players from U10s to U16s all of whom are now full members of the Club.

There are four grades of lessons— each of which is 8 weeks long.  Participants will generally start at Grade 1, (although some may be accelerated to a higher grade) and a certificate is awarded every time a player successfully completes a grade.  On completion of Grade 4 participants can become full members of the Club and will move on to Friday night training and from there to training and playing with the team relevant to their age group.

Each Grade costs £32.00 (that’s just £4 a week) if you need to hire equipment and £28.00 (that’s just £3.50 a week) if you have your own kit (excludes skate hire).

Each participant is given a free “taster” session which allows both the player and the coaches to assess the current level and decide which grade the player should start in.  Participants can then register for the next available course, which in most cases will be within 2-3 weeks of the taster session.

To register for the programme or if you require any other information about the new grades, please contact Debbie Whyte, Recruitment Officer, PJIHC, on tel: 01733 253239.
