Skating for Primary Schools Program

This ground breaking and award winning scheme has been running since 2004.

Primary school children in the greater Peterborough area, via the national curriculum for PE are able to come out of school and visit the ice for their PE lesson.

Classes and Year Groups undertake a term’s worth of lesson’s and at terms end the pupils change and an influx of new recruits begins attendance.

At the end of this year’s scheme the program will have taught to skate 8,000 local primary school children over those four year’s and since its conception the population of the junior membership has almost doubled from where it was when the scheme began delivery.

The purpose of the program is to deliver at the grass roots level to ice sports in the city new participants, to ensure a continual feed of interest and new members to the various ice based sports clubs, including, and primarily, the PJIHC and to also support in the awareness and growth of footfall of the arena itself.

As of May 2008 we have a full squad of enthusiastic U10 players within the PJIHC (Peterborough Juniuor Ice Hockey Club), a Learn to Play program that is full with beginners and a waiting list to start.

We will continually strive to secure funding to run the program and its aim over the next 24 months, should we be successful, is to grow the membership of PJIHC at U10 level to support two teams in that area, a fantastic foundation for our junior club and the long term future and success of Ice Hockey in Peterborough.

Skating for Primary Schools is delivered by the Senior Phantoms organisation and the Junior Phantoms club with support commercially from partners and fantastic support from Planet Ice.
